Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) president Khalid Al Zarooni was unanimously elected vice-president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) during the body's annual general meeting, the ACC said on Sunday.
The meeting, held on Saturday, focused on governance matters including elections to the ACC Executive Board, the presidency rotation policy and the formation of various ACC committees.
In another significant decision, the ACC approved the inclusion of the Afghanistan Cricket Board among the full member boards eligible to assume the council's presidency. The presidency has previously rotated between India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
New Executive Board confirmed
The ACC also confirmed the representatives of non-Test-playing nations and associate members on its Executive Board for the 2026–28 term.
Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saoud Al Thani, president of the Qatar Cricket Association, and Mahmood Gaznavi, president of the Singapore Cricket Association, were elected from the non-Test-playing member nations.
From the associate members, Mohamed Faisal of the Cricket Board of Maldives and Mohammad Mansoor of the Bahrain Cricket Federation will share the Executive Board term.
Growing role for the UAE
Al Zarooni's appointment comes as the UAE continues to strengthen its position within Asian cricket administration. He has overseen the Emirates Cricket Board during a period that has included the growth of the UAE's men's, women's and junior programmes, as well as the launch of the International League T20 (ILT20), where he serves as chairman.
The UAE remains a regular host of major international cricket tournaments, including ICC and ACC events.
Later this week, Dubai International Stadium will stage the eight-team Women's Asia Cup.
