“Love doesn’t exist here. Neither does mercy. The Border War rivalry — which was dubbed the Border Showdown in 2004 — is a longstanding feud between two top programs. The football rivalry dates back to 1891.

Tensions between Kansas and Missouri during the American Civil War are the roots of the feud. However, the athletic teams have been competing against each other for more than a century.

Missouri currently leads the all-time series against Kansas in football. They have won 58 out of 121 outings (the Jayhawks have won 54 games, and the teams have tied nine times).

The Tigers have won the last four matchups. If they win the next one, they will tie the all-time win streak in the heated rivalry. Kansas went on a five-game win streak from 1930 to 1934.

Both teams enter their Week 2 matchup 1-0. The Tigers destroyed the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 54-14, and the Jayhawks beat the Long Island University Sharks 51-6.
