Josh Berry made a startling admission amid his search for a 2027 Cup ride. The Wood Brothers Racing driver called it a “challenge” to land a seat across all three National Series.

Berry was recently announced to depart WBR by the end of 2026. The grassroots racing veteran has been on the hunt for a new home ever since.

In a Ford Racing media call on Wednesday, Berry gave an update, saying:

“It’s been a little busier. We’ve had conversations; I don’t feel any closer than I did two months ago, if I’m being honest. Just we’ve had conversations, we’ve had good ones, we’ve had bad ones, we’ve had ones that we thought had potential, and we’ve had ones that we sat down, and they asked for three million dollars.”

“It’s been a little bit of a challenge working through all that, and to be honest, I’m at the point now where I can’t do much else,” he added via Joseph srigley.

Berry has had a turnaround in results with two consecutive top-10s at Indianapolis and Iowa. He finished one spot shy of the podium at Iowa, marking his season-best finish so far.

Berry jumped three spots in the standings after his back-to-back top-10s, ranking 30th with four top-10s and five DNFs to his name.

He previously nabbed a ninth-place result in the season-opening Daytona 500. Since then, the 35-year-old has faded to back-marker finishes.

The Hendersonville, Tennessee, native had qualified for the 2025 playoffs with a breakthrough win at Las Vegas. He had a terrible showing in the Round of 16, but improved in subsequent races.

Nonetheless, Berry hopes to add to his credentials in the remaining races this season.

Josh Berry has confirmed his willingness to join an O’Reilly or Truck Series team. Such openings, however, come with more sponsorship requirements.

“I’m up for whatever,” Josh Berry said via the aforementioned source, “That leads me back into what I was saying earlier with the O’Reilly Series and the Truck Series being very heavily dependent on the funding that you have to kind of put those deals together and make them work. That limits your options pretty quickly.”

Josh Berry also noted that there hasn’t been much movement on the Cup side. The only open spot right now is the late Kyle Busch’s seat with Richard Childress Racing, but Austin Hill is expected to retain the ride.

Noah Gragson has been confirmed with Front Row Motorsports for 2027, while Ryan Preece’s option has been picked up by RFK Racing.

Berry has a close relationship with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and could potentially make an O’Reilly start with JR Motorsports. Earnhardt recently shared his disappointment in Berry’s uncertain future as well.
