Kellen Moore's stance on the leg injury rookie first-round pick Jordyn Tyson sustained in Thursday's joint practice session with the Jacksonville Jaguars has taken a turn for the worse. On Friday, the New Orleans Saints head coach told reporters that the team is in the "gathering information" stage of a hamstring injury he initially downplayed. This doesn't mean Moore was being untruthful or misguiding; he said Thursday that he didn't see the injury at the time it happened and would know more the next day. Now the next day is here. And Moore didn't have good news to share: "Jordyn has a hamstring. You know, something that he's, we're going to continue to collect some more information just as far as what that timeline looks like. He just got caught in a goofy spot. It's not anything related to a previous hamstring. It's just something new and so they'll collect some more information on that, put together a good action plan for that moving forward, and you know, we'll keep progressing as well as we can." While this isn't the same injury that cut into Tyson's 2025 season at Arizona State, kept him out of the NFL Scouting Combine and ASU's pro day, and prompted the Saints to keep him on ice for three months after drafting him, it is the same hamstring in his right leg that has given him trouble before. But Moore says it was more of a fluke accident that led to him injuring it again than a recurrence of the same problem. "I think my understanding of this one, any player that was put in his situation where your foot slips and you get shoved from behind, this has nothing to do with Jordyn's history. This is, any player in that situation probably has the same diagnosis coming out of is," Moore added. "We'll know more here in the next few days. Let all the experts, you know, go through that process and make a good decision on what the plan of action moving forward will be." It's discouraging to say the least. Tyson is one of several players who may not travel with the team to California next week for joint practices with the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys before their second preseason game at the Rams' SoFi Stadium. With the regular season now just one month away, Tyson's Week 1 debut may be in jeopardy. Moore acknowledged that possibility while cautioning that he wasn't "going to jump to conclusions." Tyson wouldn't be the first pro to deal with hamstring injuries and still have successful career. The Saints did a good job managing similar problems with first-round cornerback Marshon Lattimore early in his career. But while Moore is clarifying that Tyson's hamstring injury isn't due to his history as an athlete, it's hard not to think that he's got some predisposition to them. Whether it's an issue of hydration, preparation, or biomechanics, it's vital that he and the Saints' medical team get to the bottom of it and put it behind him.
