Jordan Spieth’s 2026 PGA Tour season ended on Sunday at the FedEx St.Jude Championship.

A final-round 70 saw Spieth miss out on the top 50 in the FedEx Cup points list and, as a result, he won’t be at the BMW Championship this week.

The 33-year-old from Dallas, Texas, has really struggled with his game over the past few years, and he is without a win since April 2022.

Jordan Spieth was the best golfer in the world a decade ago, but since his last major win in 2017, he simply hasn’t been the same player.

He has been stuck on 13 PGA Tour wins for nearly four-and-a-half years now, and it has been terribly sad to watch him struggle so badly since his last victory.

Spieth is now set to have around two months off before returning to action in Japan in October.

That may be a good thing for him. A complete reset and a couple of months away from tournament play could do Spieth the world of good.

However, he does have one main problem that he has to address as a matter of urgency.

Jordan Spieth’s main issue has nothing to do with his golf game

The harder that Spieth works right now, the more he seems to struggle.

However, you wouldn’t know that by listening to him speak about his golf game.

On Thursday after shooting a 65 at TPC Southwind, Spieth suggested that he is better than he has been for a very long time.

“Just knowing that I’m a lot better golfer than I’ve been in a very long time and continue to believe in that,“ he insisted.

“If low scores come, they come. If they don’t, it doesn’t change the fact that I know that I’m better than I’ve been in a long time.“

And then, after his final round in Memphis, Spieth insisted that he is extremely close to playing the best golf of his career.

“It’s funny, I just feel like I’m kind of getting back to playing really good golf, like it’s close to kicking off, and I’m not going to play a tournament for a long time,“ he said.

“In some ways I feel like I’m leaving some out there, and in some ways it’s a good thing because like I mentioned after the first round, this will be the last time I finish like this for a while.

“I’m very, very confident in what’s coming. I just ran out of steam and maybe made a couple bad decisions over about a six-week stretch on what I was working on, and I just didn’t quite have enough time to make up for it.“

The thing is, it’s clearly evident that the three-time major champion isn’t actually close to playing his best golf at all.

So, let’s take a look at some facts. Then we can all be the judge of where Spieth’s game is really at.

Jordan Spieth’s PGA Tour stats in 2026

Spieth hasn’t actually performed well in any of the key statistical categories on the PGA Tour in 2026.

The best part of his game in 2026 has actually been his putting. Spieth is ranked 43rd in strokes gained on the greens this season.

He is ranked 74th in strokes gained off the tee and 72nd in strokes gained approach this year.

Meanwhile, the three-time major winner is ranked 83rd in strokes gained around the green.

With stats like that, it’s absolutely no wonder why he has struggled to make the final two playoff events this season.

Spieth has to urgently get brutally honest with himself. There is no way that he is playing better golf than he ever has done before.

He needs people close to him telling him some harsh truths. His problems definitely run deeper than simply a few bad holes here and there during tournaments.

The vast majority of golf fans are desperate for Jordan Spieth to return to his very best form as quickly as he can.

However, it doesn’t seem like that will be possible unless he admits to the clear issues that he has with his game right now. Only then will he be able to rest and make some genuine progress.

As in any walk of life, it is impossible to improve or get better at anything if you don’t admit your own faults.
