ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) - Over at Summit Sportsplex in Roanoke, former Cave Spring basketball star and current Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick returned to the area. Redick took the time to inspire Roanoke County Public School students through the telling of his incredible story of failure and perseverance as well as the lessons he's learned in his basketball journey. According to Redick, turning to the place he called home to give back is truly a surreal feeling. "I've lived all over the country and Roanoke is special. Part of what makes it special is the people." "It was a great opportunity for me to spend some time with them, and hopefully they got something out of it. Hopefully they were inspired, they got some insight into me and my story and how I've been able to get to where I'm at." More than 600 students attended the event. This was also the first time Redick returned to the Roanoke area in more than a decade.
