Jim Furyk will captain the US team at the Ryder Cup next year in Ireland, while Brandt Snedeker is on captaincy duty at the Presidents Cup.

Furyk captained the Presidents Cup team at Royal Montreal in 2024, with Snedeker serving as one of his vice-captains.

The US team absolutely dominated the International team in Canada two years ago, winning by a score of 18.5 to 11.5.

So the Internationals will be very keen for revenge at Medinah Country Club in September.

Jim Furyk will serve as one of Brandt Snedeker‘s vice-captains at the Presidents Cup next month.

And interestingly, it was actually Furyk who touted Snedeker for the role back in 2024.

Jim Furyk recommended Brandt Snedeker as Presidents Cup captain

Furyk made an appearance on the Dan on Golf Show this week to discuss the upcoming Presidents Cup this year and the Ryder Cup next year.

The 2003 US Open champion responded when asked if he was in the running for the Presidents Cup captaincy this year.

“No, when I finished my Presidents Cup captaincy in 2024, it is very customary for the current captain to help the PGA Tour and steer them in a direction of where you think you could go,“ he said.

“I thought Sneds was a really good addition to our captaining squad in 24. I was the first guy to bring him in. I thought he did a wonderful job and I thought he’d be a good captain in the future.

“I had a conversation with Jay Monahan after that event. I was not quite sure or didn’t even know I was going to be brought into that process like I was by Jay.

“He called me and said I kind of have a guy in mind but I want to hear your thoughts. I threw a few names out and said I think Sneds might be the guy. He sighed a deep sigh of relief and said that’s the exact guy I was talking about, I think he’d be great.

“It’s a bit of a mix between the powers that be at the PGA Tour and also from us as captains in the Presidents Cup trying to earmark that next guy.

“I don’t think what you are saying is a bad idea as far as having back to back captains and keeping the continuity.“

Jim Furyk insists Presidents Cup is no trial run for the Ryder Cup

Furyk insisted that the Presidents Cup is a fantastic event in its own right.

“It’s tough to say we are going to use the Presidents Cup as a practice going into the Ryder Cup,“ Furyk insisted.

“I hear that a lot from the media, folks talking about it. But that takes so much away from a great event in the Presidents Cup and it’s kind of a smack in the face to the international team. They have been growing and getting better.

“It’s a wonderful event on its own. From us a US side, what you are trying to say is very viable, in that we don’t look at it from our perspective as much as Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup and two separate events. For us it’s the United States team.

“Our captains such as Davis Love, Stricker, Freddie Couples, Jay Haas, we have all learned from those folks and tried to keep the process and that continuity going. Maybe it could happen in the future where a Presidents Cup captain goes back-to-back at the Ryder Cup.

“There is a big, heavy lift with the captain so for the last three or four months I have been working really hard on the Ryder Cup. To now set that down and put it to the side for a while, and then focus on the Presidents Cup would be a bit difficult.

“There are some plusses and minuses to it. I think it could be done, but it would take some continuity for US to pull that off. Both are run by separate organisations, so therein lies the toughest part, because you are working with two separate groups.“
