James Palmer has announced a new NFL broadcast role with Amazon Prime Video ahead of the 2026 season. Palmer will join the Thursday Night Football team as an NFL insider, replacing Ian Rapoport in the role.
Palmer confirmed the move on X, sharing his excitement about returning to game-day coverage. “I’m thrilled to announce that I’m joining the outstanding broadcast crew @NFLonPrime,” Palmer wrote.
He also praised the existing group, naming Charissa Thompson, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Andrew Whitworth, Tony Gonzalez and Richard Sherman. “Stoked to get back to what I love. Working gameday!” Palmer added.
The move gives Prime Video an experienced reporter with deep NFL relationships and a long record of breaking league news. Palmer spent nearly a decade with NFL Network before working across digital and independent platforms.

His experience also fits the demands of an insider role. Prime Video needs someone who can provide timely updates while adding reporting context during its pregame and postgame coverage.
Soon after the move, reactions poured in from fellow media personalities. NFL on Fox’s Mark Schlereth wrote, “Congratulations brother,” meanwhile, Sara Walsh wrote, “A good thing for a great person. What a win for both sides. Believe in good humans.”

Prime Video has held exclusive Thursday Night Football rights since 2022 under a long-term NFL agreement. That makes Palmer’s role important beyond individual reports, as his work becomes part of a major weekly national broadcast.
For Palmer, the move provides a return to consistent game-day television after several years across different media platforms. For Amazon, it adds a proven NFL reporter to an already established broadcast operation.
