Especially the guys constantly colliding in the trenches, but for a defender to make contact with an opposing team’s quarterback in this situation is fairly uncalled for.
I won’t go as far as to say it was dirty as much as it is just a dumb thing to do. It is not surprising to hear this led to a fight.
When recounting what happened, Burrow and his top wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase had two very different reactions.
“We better f***ing protect Joe,” Chase said of the incident.
No team that has a quarterback of Burrow’s caliber wants any defender doing something dumb like this in a joint practice. Nothing good comes from it, but thankfully, nothing bad came from this incident.
