Jalen Coker has yet to truly put the pieces together for his fantasy football managers. However, as he prepares for his third NFL season, there are breadcrumbs pointing to a potential breakout within a Carolina Panthers offense that looks ready to take another step forward.

The acquisition cost is minimal, but is he the best flier to take at the wide receiver position in the late stages of your draft?

Should You Draft Jalen Coker in Fantasy Football?

Two seasons with a total of 65 catches and more missed games each year than career touchdowns isn’t exactly the résumé we typically target in fantasy.

Yet, there seems to be something intriguing in Coker’s profile. After Bryce Young showed signs of development in Year 3 (recording four top-10 finishes in the second half of last season, per the QB Impact grading metric), 2026 has the potential to be the best bang-for-your-buck season of Coker’s career.

During that second-half stretch where Young looked the part of a former first-overall pick, Coker posted three WR2 finishes over a four-game span (including three straight games with a 30+ yard reception).

He entered the league as a raw, 6’3” weapon who produced heavily in college — logging 109 catches, 1,949 yards, and 26 touchdowns over his final two seasons. Still, there were questions about the level of competition he faced at Holy Cross and whether his skill set would translate to the professional level.

We still aren’t entirely sure on that front, but after two seasons in an underwhelming offense, the fact that there is still hope remains a positive sign.

Coker’s Redraft Fantasy Football Value

Thanks to his late-season spurt, Coker appears poised to enter this season ahead of 2024 first-rounder Xavier Legette (career: 31 games, 148 targets, 860 yards) on the depth chart. The hierarchy in Carolina projects to be fluid from week to week, but if you’re betting on this offense on the cheap, Coker is the way to do it.

The concerns are obvious: this is a risky parlay. For Coker to threaten the Flex discussion on anything close to a consistent basis, Young needs to continue to grow, the target competition must fail, and Coker himself needs to refine his skill set.

Tetairoa McMillan is clearly the alpha in this WR room, and that isn’t going to change. That said, if Young is able to sustain even average play, there is a world where a second pass-catcher can post viable numbers.

Will that guy be Coker?

His athletic profile is great, but part of what made him special in college was his ability to leverage his size in scoring situations. We haven’t seen much of that in the NFL, and 2025 was actually a massive step backward in that regard:

  • 2024: 17.1% red zone target rate
  • 2025: 7.9% red zone target rate

This is the rub, and it’s where his value in 2026 will likely be determined. Even if you expect Young to take another step in the right direction, this offense isn’t likely to live in the red zone. Making the most of those rare trips is a must. The volume is there for the taking in Carolina — especially if they continue to trail in games — but we need to see Coker step up his target-earning skills before we can confidently insert him into the start/sit conversation.

Coker’s Dynasty Fantasy Football Value

At just 24 years of age in an offense full of young talent, it would be irresponsible to shut the door on a player like this. His first touchdown last season came from 33 yards out in an upset win over the Rams, so there is certainly an upside case to chase.

That said, there are a lot of moving pieces here, opening up several paths to failure. McMillan is the WR1 and is only going to get better with time. While Legette has struggled so far, he’s a 25-year-old with significant draft capital attached to him.

At the moment, I don’t fear the involvement of any receiver beyond that duo, but it’s still a “need-to-see-it” situation. This offense is loaded with unknowns, which is why none of them (outside of McMillan) are expensive.

My approach to Coker and players of his ilk is simple: do your homework. Personally, I like Coker. We all like the idea of Coker (a young, athletic player in an offense set to grow along with him) but there are at least a dozen WRs every year that fall into that bucket.

There’s no harm in stashing a profile like this on your bench. The mistake I see most often is a manager loading up on lottery tickets without creating balance. Upside swings are nice to hold, but only if you insulate your roster with enough ready-to-produce options to keep your current team afloat.

As long as you build your roster properly, Coker is a fine option at the end of your bench given his physical tools and proximity to production.
