Jaissle hints at further changes at Newcastle after pre-season defeat

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has made clear that the club knows what is required in terms of incomings.

With the new Premier League season only a week away, Newcastle look short in several areas, in particular in the goalscoring department.

When asked about this after the Magpies 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, Jaissle was quick to point out that those within the club concerned with transfers are all aligned, but would not go into further detail.

“Everyone is involved in the club, in the management, and there will be some changes for sure,” he said.

“As I mentioned in the press conference previously and also in the interviews, the club knows exactly the needs. This is for sure not the right place to talk about the positions and for sure not about names.

“No, we stick with the plan.”

Newcastle are currently relying on a strike force of Yoane Wissa, Nick Woltemade and William Osula, whose combined efforts flattered to deceive for large parts of last season.

Wissa and Osula have looked sharp in pre-season, but Newcastle may well need more going forward for this campaign.

Jaissle described the upcoming season as a “huge challenge”, but said that he is not concerned with the current state of things.

”We know the reality and we do the best out of the reality.

”You are all smart enough to see that. But what we can do, it’s pretty simple. We can do our best every day. Day in, day out together with the lads we have here. Again, that’s our approach. I like these challenges.

“Together with the fans, you saw that today they bring the energy. They will bring the pure commitment and the belief and we will have the same. If that synergy comes across and we have that bond, then we will go through that even stronger.”

Newcastle look likely to bring in Bosnian right back Amar Dedic from Benfica in the coming days, a move which will bolster their defence.

But it remains in forward areas where the biggest concerns lie at present for Jaissle and the Magpies.
