Big names continue to be added to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ injury list.

Before practice on Aug. 18, receiver Parker Washington and reserve guard Wyatt Milum were ruled out for the rest of the week (including the Aug. 21 game against the Carolina Panthers) and running back LeQuint Allen (soft tissue) was ruled out for the rest of training camp.

That news came about 12 hours after a source confirmed an NFL Network report that right guard Patrick Mekari underwent a “recent” surgery on his back. Mekari has not taken one team play during camp and was an extremely limited participant during the offseason program. He was unable to finish his final two games of the 2025 season (at Denver and vs. Buffalo).

Allen is expected to be the Jaguars’ primary third-down back. Expect the Jaguars to take a look at every healthy running back.

“The backs have progressed really well in the last couple weeks, particularly in the protection game and the pass game,” offensive coordinator Grant Udinski said. “Looking at that room, it’s been by-committee in the run game and it’s been the same thing in the pass game. They all have the ability and we value that.”

Figure on Ameer Abdullah, J’Mari Taylor and DeeJay Dallas to get the bulk of the snaps against Carolina even if Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Bhayshul Tuten see the initial playing time.

The Jaguars practiced in shells ahead of their joint workout against the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 19.

Player participation

Did not practice: RT Cole Van Lanen (right knee, physically unable to perform list), RB LeQuint Allen, Jr., WR Parker Washington, LB Jack Kiser (right knee), OT Chuma Edoga (lower body), DE Zach Durfee, OT Geron Christian Sr., G Wyatt Milum, RG Patrick Mekari (back) and DT Arik Armstead.

Limited practice: LB Jalen McLeod, OL Ricky Lee, CB Jourdan Lewis, TE Quintin Morris and WR Trebor Pena. Morris and Pena wore non-contact jerseys.

Top plays

WR Michael Wortham drew oohs and ahhs from teammates with a one-handed catch in team work.

QB Trevor Lawrence’s best pass of practice was a dart to WR Brian Thomas, Jr., on an out route.

Thumbs up

CB Jabbar Muhammad: He intercepted QB Trevor Lawrence and broke up two other passes, all in the red zone.

WR Austin Trammell: The injury to WR Parker Washington moved Trammell up a line on the depth chart and he took advantage, catching two passes in a span of four plays from QB Trevor Lawrence.

Thumbs down

Injuries: Too early to be concerned? It’s never too early to be worried about the attrition and seeing WR Parker Washington added to the list is a big development.

Odds and ends

  • The offensive line group which played in front of QB Trevor Lawrence: LT Anton Harrison, LG Emmanuel Pregnon, C Robert Hainsey, RG Ezra Cleveland and RT Walker Little. Little participated in team work since being injured on Aug. 7. The second offensive group in front of QB Nick Mullens: LT Kilian Zierer, LG Sam Mustipher, C Jonah Monheim, RG Jerome Carvin and RT Jimto Obidegwu.
  • Lawrence’s first four-play sequence: Run by RB Bhayshul Tuten, penalty, WR Jakobi Meyers catch and scramble. His second four-play sequence: Incompletion, run by RB Chris Rodriguez, Jr., incompletion, run by Rodriguez.
  • WR/CB Travis Hunter had two rushing attempts in team work, a jet sweep and a toss back as he was running parallel behind QB Nick Mullens.
  • Lawrence had a rough seven-play possession after starting with consecutive completions to WR Brian Thomas, Jr. After a penalty, Lawrence was intercepted by CB Jabbar Muhammad followed by four consecutive incompletions. Lawrence finished his practice with a 3-for-3 drive (Thomas and two to WR Austin Trammell).
  • What will a veteran like Meyers get out of seeing playing time against Carolina? A lot, actually. “I just want to hit,” he said. “It’s been a minute. I miss it a little bit. To get into the fire, throw my shoulder pads around and get my body right after the game – I want to go through that process.”

MORE FROM RYAN O'HALLORAN: Should Jaguars be worried about backup QB spot behind Trevor Lawrence?

  • Offensive coordinator Grant Udinski on back-up quarterback Carter Bradley’s performance against New Orleans: “It was great to see Carter get out there and see some live action because you can try to simulate it as much as you can in training camp, but until you get hit a defensive end or defensive tackle or linebacker, it’s not truly full speed. There were some moments when we struggled collectively as an offense in the first half, but he responded and came out well in the second half.”

Upcoming schedule

The Jaguars and Carolina Panthers will conduct a joint practice at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 19.
