The talented Jack Davies has announced his retirement from professional cricket at the age of just 26. The Middlesex wicketkeeper ends his career after six seasons with the county, during which he made over 100 appearances across first-class, List A and Twenty20 formats. Davies accumulated more than 2,200 runs and 88 dismissals as a wicketkeeper during his time at the club.

Davies joined Middlesex's pathway in the winter of 2016-17 after progressing from Berkshire and made 23 Second Eleven appearances across all formats during the summer of 2017. The Reading-born cricketer received an England Under-19 call-up in December 2017 for a series against South Africa and was subsequently selected for the England Under-19 World Cup squad in New Zealand in January 2018.

"It is always sad when we say goodbye to players, especially when they have given as much as Jack has to the club," Middlesex Cricket’s Managing Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, said in a statement released by the club.

Davies' career at Middlesex

Davies made his first-class debut in the Bob Willis Trophy in August 2020 and played four Vitality Blast matches that year. In 2021, he appeared in five Royal London One-Day Cup matches, scoring 164 runs at an average of 32.8. He featured prominently in all 14 County Championship fixtures during 2024 following John Simpson's departure at the end of 2023, but found opportunities limited in 2025 as he was unable to regain the gloveman position.

"I’m very thankful to everybody that’s given me support on my journey as a Middlesex player. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club, thank you to all my teammates, and I wish them and the club all the best in the future." Davies said.

Following his retirement from professional cricket, Davies will undertake a significant charity challenge starting on September 3. He will run 24 marathons across 24 consecutive days around Battersea Park to raise funds for the Brompton Fountain and the Cricketers' Trust, combining his passion for fitness with support for two worthy causes.
