Fabrizio Romano has revolutionised football transfer reporting, building an enormous global following around his ability to break major moves.

Romano first broke the news of Mauro Icardi’s move to Inter Milan in 2011 and has since become the world’s most recognisable football reporter.

The Italian journalist has amassed more than 100 million social media followers and popularised the now-famous catchphrase, “here we go”.

Romano has continued to break several huge stories throughout the summer, but his latest comments suggest a major change to his approach is on the horizon.

Fabrizio Romano hints at a new era for transfer reporting

Fabrizio Romano celebrated the success of his report on Ronald Araujo’s loan move from Barcelona to Liverpool on LinkedIn.

His exclusive story racked up 49 million views, two million likes, 47,000 comments, and was shared two million times.

However, in the same post, Romano hinted that this could be his final summer as a football transfer reporter.

He wrote: “I’m probably not gonna continue into the transfer market industry as I’m doing right now for longer: it’s time to change the approach, the view…

“But this will be another topic soon, after the transfer window closes. But still, these numbers feel incredible.

“The adrenaline of the breaking story, the exclusivity, the unexpected factor, from zero links at all to done deal… well, this will always remain unmatched for me. Onto the next one!”

Whatever comes next for Romano, the football landscape would certainly look different without one of its loudest voices.
