‘It’s a disservice to the incredible women playing’:Former NFL star comments on current WNBA controversy

The WNBA has been on fire lately, with stars such as Natasha Cloud and Sophie Cunningham drawing the most attention, but not for the skills they possess. Instead, news has been abundant about controversial comments each athlete has made.

In a July ESPN profile of Cunningham, she gave her opinions regarding transgender athletes in women’s sports, sparking the beginning of a saga.

“ And I’m like, ‘I never once said that. “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

On a separate occasion in a post-game presser last weekend, Cloud made a statement regarding fans throwing inappropriate objects onto the court during games.

“. And I want you to know, that is the gayest thing that you can do is to go to a store, a sex shop, buy a dildo, come to a women’s game to throw the dildo on the court. That is the gayest sh*t that I’ve ever heard.”

On Sunday, Cloud and former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom were involved in an altercation during last night’s Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky game, resulting in Kanter being thrown out mid-game.

“…I’m sure she’s loved in Chicago, and many kids are idolizing her and stuff, but that’s not how a WNBA athlete should react, Kanter said regarding Cloud’s comments.

Fans took to social media to express their concerns about the WNBA’s focus lately, including former NFL star and Fox Sports analyst Robert Griffin III.

“EVERYTHING but basketball is leading the conversation about the WNBA, and it’s a disservice to the incredible women playing night in and night out.” .

Several fans reacted to Griffin III’s statements and added their opinions in the comments.
