Dillon Brooks is used to antagonizing his opponents on and off the court with his smack talk. This time, though, another player took the verbal fight to “Dillon the Villain.”

In a live stream on Saturday, Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg responded to a fan question about competing against Brooks.

“Am I excited for the Dillon Brooks matchup? I’m finna give Dillon Brooks belt, man. Stop playing, bruh,” lendeborg said.

From the looks of it, the competitive juices were flowing through Lendeborg as he made that comment.

Brooks, it should be noted, is coming off a season in which he averaged a career-high 20.2 points per game on 43.5% shooting (his best shooting clip since his rookie season eight years ago). The Suns guard, however, played just 56 regular-season games as he dealt with a number of injuries, including a fractured left hand in February.

Meanwhile, Lendeborg is just getting started with his NBA journey. The former Michigan standout, who was picked 11th in this year’s NBA draft, helped the Warriors clinch the Summer League title in Las Vegas.

Lendeborg finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game against Cam Boozer and the Memphis Grizzlies.

“The NBA Just Keeps Getting Better”: Dillon Brooks Comments on Staying Sharp After Signing $73 Million Extension

Back on Aug. 5, Dillon Brooks signed a three-year, $73 million extension with the Suns. Though his future is pretty much secured for the next few years, Brooks has said he intends to stay sharp.

In a media availability on Friday, Brooks talked about the need to guard against complacency as the NBA continues to replenish its talent pipeline.

“What I’ve learned over the years as well is that the NBA just keeps getting better with the young talent…For me, that’s the motivation because I don’t want to get too old or get too not into my game where some young guy can just come in and just give me 25.”

Funnily enough, one young NBA talent in Lendeborg is now challenging Brooks.
