Enes Kanter may have upset a fair few WNBA fans, but he has the full support of US Congresswoman Lauren Boebert.
Rep. Lauren Boebert is a vocal Colorado conservative known for regularly weighing in on the culture war, especially when it comes to transgender women in sports.
Lately, former NBA player Enes Kanter has stepped up his bid to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft by attending the Chicago Sky game, where he was ejected following a clash with guard Natasha Cloud.
Critics, players, and LGBTQ+ advocates slammed his appearance as a cheap, attention-seeking stunt, but he does seem to have one supporter in Lauren Boebert.
Lauren Bobert wants Enes Kanter in the WNBA
TMZ managed to catch Lauren Boebert outside the courthouse recently, and quizzed her on her beliefs surrounding the WNBA and the transgender debate.
She actually sides with Enes Kanter and points to how inept the WNBA are.
Interviewer: “Congresswoman, I know where you stand on trans women playing in women’s sports. Men playing in women’s sports? I know where you stand on it. You saw a few days ago, Enes Kanter at the WNBA game. So do you view him as a hero or just like an attention seeker?”
Boebert responded: “I think it’s calling the idiocy out. You know, when he was like on the WNBA floor and, you know, these female players are going after him, it’s like, this is quite the cat fight, you know? Like these two women just going at it. I know, but don’t you think he’s kind of like, because he’s being hailed in some circles as like a hero. I’m going to bet on his games. I hope he gets in. You hope he gets in? I’m going to bet on him. Do you see the spread on?”
Interviewer responded: “To your point, though, you don’t think it’s fair for trans women to play in women’s sports. So at the same time, is it kind of a mismatch for a guy to go on a woman’s WNBA floor and try to fight or oppress an athlete?”
Boebert again: “But you could feel that way. Come on. They won’t even define it. They had to have a meeting and they couldn’t even get to the definition.”
The common theme we see with many politicians and athletes who talk on the debate is how the WNBA could stop this simply by defining what a woman is.
Even Enes Kanter said he would walk away if the WNBA give a definition.
