During a meeting on Wednesday with the hostel managements, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V.Ranganath has given them three months’ time to shift to structurally sound buildings.
In view of the recent incident of building collapse in Anjaiah Nagar of Gachibowli, and of a hostel in Delhi, an inspection of hostel buildings will be undertaken from the start of the New Year, Mr. Ranganath informed during the meeting also attended by the building owners.
He warned the attendees against compromise in terms of fire safety, emergency exits and structural safety of the buildings. Inspections will be taken up in coordination with the three municipal corporations in the city.
Speaking with The Hindu, Mr. Ranganath clarified that the aim of HYDRAA is not to go after all the illegally constructed buildings, but the unauthorised buildings over three to four floors in height without commensurate set backs will be definitely under the scanner.
