Jalen Hurts is not playing for his Philadelphia Eagles future in 2026. At least, that’s not how Howie Roseman sees it.
With the Eagles offense coming under fire after an uneven 2025 season, the quarterback has been dragged into another round of speculation about whether this could be a make-or-break year. Roseman pushed back hard, making it clear the Eagles aren’t viewing Hurts through that lens.
Jalen Hurts Still Has Eagles’ Full Backing
Roseman’s argument is pretty simple: look at what Hurts has actually done since taking over as Philadelphia’s starter. During an appearance on SportsRadio 94WIP, the Eagles general manager was asked directly if 2026 represented a make-or-break season for his quarterback.

That track record is difficult to ignore. Hurts has helped the Eagles reach the postseason for five straight seasons as their starting quarterback, with two NFC Championship Games and two Super Bowls during this span. He also led the Eagles to win Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs and bagged the MVP title.
This is all due to what happened last year. Though they were still successful, finishing the season with a 11-6 record and winning the NFC East, there was one downside: the offense became very inconsistent. They were ranked 23rd in passing yards and 19th in total QBR, but were ranked number one in the league in terms of three-and-outs. The season ended with a 23-19 Wild Card loss against the San Francisco 49ers.
Mannion’s system represents a significant departure from what the Eagles have traditionally done under Nick Sirianni. They spent training camp adding more under-center concepts, pre-snap motion, and play action, concepts associated with the McVay, Shanahan, and LaFleur coaching tree.
The changes could put more responsibility on Hurts to operate outside the comfort zone that has defined much of his career. There are encouraging signs, though. Hurts has reportedly been far more receptive to offensive changes this offseason, and his teammates have noticed it. Left tackle Jordan Mailata previously described the quarterback as being fully committed to the new system.
That matters because the Eagles aren’t asking Hurts to reinvent himself just for the sake of it, but trying to get more out of an offense that became predictable at times last season. Roseman also is not pretending everything is perfect. The barometer, he said, is winning football games, and Hurts has consistently done that.
The QB signed a five-year, $255 million extension in 2023 that runs through the 2028 season. Philadelphia, therefore, has far more invested in Hurts than one shaky offensive season.
