Ben Shelton played the best of his young career into the early hours of Wednesday morning in a quarterfinal win over Carlos Alcaraz.
Shelton has long credited his family, friends, and girlfriend Trinity Rodman’s support for helping him reach the heights he has in the sport.
If Shelton beats compatriot Frances Tiafoe in the US Open semifinals on Friday, he would reach his first ever Grand Slam final which poses a logistical and scheduling issue for Rodman.

Rodman plays for the Washington Spirit women’s professional soccer team. The Spirit have a 1 PM EDT game in Washington, DC.Shelton would take the court in New York City for the US Open final at 2 PM EDT on Sunday.
What will Rodman do? This is the plight of a successful couple, and in their case two accomplished professional athletes. They sometimes cannot be on site to celebrate the other’s big career achievements in real time.
However, it is really hard to envision a scenario where Rodman does not try to get to NYC even while the match is in progress.
