Highland Community College student-athletes earned 24 spots on the National Junior College Athletic Association’s All-Academic Teams after posting grade-point averages of 3.60 or higher during the academic year.

The honors were announced by the NJCAA, which recognized 13,723 student-athletes nationwide, according to a community announcement. Student-athletes qualified for All-Academic recognition by finishing the academic year with an overall GPA of at least 3.60.

Highland had five students named to the NJCAA All-Academic First Team for maintaining a 4.0 GPA:

  • Brianna Gonnerman, basketball and volleyball
  • Garrett Houston, baseball
  • Cailyn Lane, volleyball
  • Taryn Mathews, volleyball
  • Darryl Toney III, basketball

Eight Highland student-athletes were selected to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team, awarded to students with GPAs between 3.80 and 3.99:

  • Izabella Homewood, volleyball
  • Cameron MacDonald, baseball and bowling
  • Addison Ness, basketball and volleyball
  • Zachary Newcomer, golf
  • Hudson Powers, baseball
  • Fabian Soto, baseball
  • Mason Villafuerte, baseball
  • Ivan Wenger, cross country

Additional Highland athletes earn academic recognition

<ul><li>NJCAA recognized 24 Highland student-athletes for academic achievement and named the school’s men’s bowling team Academic Team of the Year.</li><li></li></ul>

Eleven Highland student-athletes received NJCAA All-Academic Third Team honors for GPAs between 3.60 and 3.79:

  • Alexia Garrido Lopez, basketball
  • Stevan Jurisic, basketball
  • Ayla Kiper, softball
  • Alex Lora, baseball
  • Kaidynce Lynch, volleyball
  • Korbin Parker, baseball
  • Allon Seepersaud, baseball

Men’s bowling team recognized for academic achievement

Highland’s men’s bowling team also received national recognition as the NJCAA Men’s Bowling Academic Team of the Year after posting a 3.42 team GPA, according to the announcement.
