Here’s How ATP Stars ‘Push the Boundaries’ with Their Off-Court US Open Style (Exclusive)

The 2026 US Open is upon us, which means New York City is buzzing with tennis fans, pros and fashion-lovers alike. Everyone is making their way to the iconic courts, where style — both on and off the court — is always served.

Taking place at the iconic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, Queens, N.Y., the annual tennis tournament —which marks the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year — kicked off with the main singles draws on Aug. 30 and ends on Sept. 13.

While the 63 stops on tour are all exciting in their own right — like the prestigious Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon — there’s a particular excitement in the N.Y.C. air that gets these players amped up to compete and dress the part.

From statement-making looks arriving at the grounds to polished, performance-ready ensembles on court, the US Open has become just as much a fashion moment as it is a sporting spectacle. Just look at Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka, for example (oh, and Naomi Osaka’s mom!).

Australian star Alex de Minaur tells PEOPLE that the “lights” of the Big Apple are what inspired his city style. “It’s a little bit more out there than other tournaments because the US Open always brings the most amount of energy and it lets you push the boundaries a bit more,” he says.

“Super excited for this year’s US Open, I feel like it’s always a great vibe; it’s always unmatched energy out here,” continues the current world No. 7. “It’s electric, and I’m looking forward to hopefully a couple of night sessions, which are iconic.”

Zizou Bergs tells PEOPLE exclusively that his style changes depending on the tournament, and he likes to take “inspiration” from the host city.

“In New York, for example, I’ll naturally go a bit bolder,” he tells PEOPLE, explaining, “More streetwear, cool jackets, maybe something more flashy. That’s what I like about fashion... you can play around with it and make it your own.”

Zizou Bergs

Zizou Bergs served nonchalant-cool boy vibes upon his arrival to New York City for the US Open, rocking an oversized charcoal graphic tee from Golden Goose paired with voluminous black trousers and his personalized Golden Goose shoes.

“In general, I’m really into fashion and I like expressing myself through what I wear. I’d say my style is a mix of streetwear, good basics and more unique pieces that stand out,” he tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“I don’t like to overthink it too much, but I do like adding something that makes an outfit feel a little different or more personal,” he adds. “Most of the time, I’ll mix simple basics with one or two statement pieces.”

This particular look is a grand slam for the Belgian tennis star given the circumstances he found himself in prior to his arrival.

“I’ve actually been on the road for about five weeks now, so to be honest, I didn’t have endless options to choose from. I basically had to make the best of what was left in my suitcase,” he shares.

Fashion and tennis aside, Bergs is jazzed about the thrill of the city as a whole and getting to enjoy all that it has to offer while he’s in town for the tournament’s stretch.

“What excites me most is probably the whole energy around the US Open. I love being in New York and just hanging around the city whenever I have some time off. There’s always something going on and the city really invites you to go out and explore,” he says.

“I love discovering good restaurants, going to cool events and experiencing the city a little bit outside of tennis,” continues Bergs. “It creates a really fun atmosphere, which makes the US Open feel very different from any other tournament during the year.”

Alex De Minaur

Alex De Minaur understands the art of the white T-shirt. He kept things relaxed and effortlessly cool in an oversized graphic tee, washed light-wash jeans and dark leather loafers.

“I would describe my off-court tennis style as smart casual,” he tells PEOPLE. “I like to dress up when I can; it is my way to be a normal human being. I love going to restaurants and putting on nice clothes.”

“I would normally always try to dress up rather than dress down... anything from some summer looks with linen to a little bit more baggier jeans, chinos and sweaters,” adds the Australian tennis star.

Flavio Cobolli

Flavio Cobolli opted for a sharp, sophisticated look in a deep navy double-breasted suit, paired with a dark open-collar shirt and polished brown leather shoes. The tailored silhouette gave the Italian tennis star’s outfit a sleek, modern feel, while the pocket square added a subtle touch of elegance.

Andrey Rublev looked sharp in a refined, vintage-inspired look featuring a textured brown tailored suit by Luca Faloni, layered over a deep teal button-up shirt. His dark teal shoes complemented the shirt, while his sunglasses and Vanguart watch added understated, intellectual details.
