Heat predicted to outbid Cavaliers for $305M future Hall of Famer, 17-year veteran, 6x All-Star originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Miami Heat are still looking to add another piece alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo during this free agency cycle. However, it has been a difficult road, especially after missing out on veteran Bradley Beal, who re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. Miami is pursuing several veterans, but DeMar DeRozan is the biggest remaining name on its radar. The six-time All-Star is believed to be an excellent fit for the Heat. “Miami Heat have been a Derozan landing spot for years now, there's been so much connectivity between him and the Heat and I do think the Heat seem to be the most likely scenario for DeMar DeRozan right now…Miami is probably his best bet…those other spots really don't have spending power," The Stein Line's Jake Fischer said. With DeRozan appearing to be such a strong fit in Miami, it is somewhat surprising that he remains a free agent. However, this has become one of the slower periods of free agency, and DeRozan and his camp do not appear to be in a rush to make a decision. “This is generally the slowest time of the year and there's no urgency for DeMar to find a spot," reported Doug Smith of the Toronto Star. "I still think Brooklyn, Miami, Portland and Denver are interesting spots where he'd fit. There's just no sense anyone's in any rush." The good news for the Heat is that they have not lost any ground in the race for DeRozan. In fact, Miami appears to be the favorite over the Cleveland Cavaliers to land the six-time All-Star. “DeMar DeRozan is going down the same path as LeBron James, with both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat interested in signing the six-time All-Star. As things sit, Miami is the frontrunner to sign DeRozan,” SI’s Samuel Profeta wrote. The Heat cannot afford to miss on DeRozan after losing out on Beal. If Miami fails to land the 17-year veteran, the team could face a difficult offensive season, especially if it cannot find another player capable of creating his own shot and easing the pressure on Antetokounmpo and Adebayo. DeRozan has earned $305 million throughout his Hall of Fame-caliber career. Miami has one major goal remaining this offseason, and the Heat are currently in a strong position to bring the veteran scorer to South Beach. More NBA news:
