With the various court rulings allowing players of the 2022 class a fifth year, the ACC has changed quite a bit. UNC picked up a useful center in Cameron Fens, from South Dakota, even if Tar Heel fans will tremble every time his first name is mentioned, and Louisville has former Tar Heel Seth Trimble and might pick up former Michigan State forward Jaxon Kohler.

And it’s still possible that Miami could retain Malik Reneau, who is a party to yet another lawsuit.

This article from BustingBrackets.com asks if it’s enough for Louisville and Miami to catch Duke.

Well, maybe.

It’s worth noting that Duke has beaten Louisville nine straight times, for what it’s worth (it’s also worth noting that the Cardinals have been through a lot of turmoil over the last few years).

As for Miami, they should absolutely be a challenger, with or without Reneau. But they face the same challenge that UNC and Louisville face: incorporating new players quite late.

That’s not entirely true for Miami, where Reneau is a known commodity. However, Miami didn’t expect him back, if he does in fact prevail in court and chooses to return, and other guys have been developing roles, that’s a bit of a crapshoot.

All that said, even if things go perfectly for all three (and they overlooked Virginia), catching up to Duke won’t be easy. The Blue Devils have a lot of size, talent, and depth, and the coaching is pretty good, too.

Whatever happens, it’ll be interesting, to say the least.
