Koy Beasley has had a hard time finding a home in college football. He began his career with the Purdue Boilermakers before transferring to Miami of Ohio. Now, he's with the Kansas State Wildcats. And so far, it is seeming to work. Wildcats defensive coordinator Jordan Peterson recently said Beasley is one of the players who have made the biggest strides from spring practices to training camp. " I think one of those guys is Koy Beasley," Peterson said. "
He's really kind of stepped up his game from a standpoint of, 'Hey, I am the quarterback of the defense back here in the secondary. I've got to run the show. ' Not always are the personality types all the same in the back end, but you got to be able to command and have that presence about him. He's done a nice job with his body over the course of the last three months since spring ball ended. I really like where he's progressed over the course of these last three months. "
This is Beasley's first year in Manhattan. Last season he had a productive season at Miami. He made seven starts, finishing with 40 tackles and an interception. He didn't get much playing time at Purdue, where he was a teammate of current Wildcats receiver Jaron Tibbs. The hope is Beasley can develop into the player who was ranked No. 138 by ESPN coming out of high school. He has a solid chance to crack the secondary rotation, or even the starting lineup.
First-year coach Collin Klein has yet to release a depth chart because he's taken the approach of having open competitions during training camp. The only spots that aren't up for grabs are basically quarterback Avery Johnson and running back Joe Jackson.
