Greg Cosell believes Jalen Hurts can thrive in the Eagles’ new offense

The are entering the season with a dramatically different offensive philosophy, placing Jalen Hurts at the center of one of the NFL’s more intriguing schematic transitions.

Greg Cosell believes Philadelphia’s franchise quarterback is equipped to handle it.

The Eagles also will ask him to operate with different footwork and timing after spending much of his career in the shotgun. Those adjustments could produce an uneven moment or two, especially early in the season. Still, Cosell believes Hurts’ work ethic and previous tape suggest the transition could be smoother than anticipated.

“I think it’s going to work out a little better than people think,” Cosell said.

The offense will not remove Hurts’ responsibility to make accurate throws or timely decisions. It should, however, provide more answers before and immediately after the snap. Hurts has already demonstrated that he can win from the pocket, attack defenses as a runner, and deliver in high-leverage situations. Sean Mannion’s challenge is combining those strengths with a system that creates easier opportunities.

After reviewing the film, Cosell believes Hurts can make it work.
