CHARMCO, WV (WVNS) - The Greenbrier West Cavaliers know what their identity is. They want to punch you in the mouth. We're a physical team and we're going to fight in the 4th quarter..

CHARMCO, WV (WVNS) - The Greenbrier West Cavaliers know what their identity is. They want to punch you in the mouth. "We're a physical team and we're going to fight in the 4th quarter. You're going to have to really step up," said senior Running Back Vinson Vaughan.

"You can expect us to be physical and hardworking, and you can expect us to fight," said senior Quarterback Scott McClung.

"Well, that's our brand of football. They expect to be physical and get after it and get their place up there on the wall like the rest of them guys," said Head Coach Kelly Vaughan.

"The wall" recognizes all 30 West football teams to reach the state playoffs, including six out of the last seven years. But after coming up short last season, this class of seniors doesn't want to miss out on a spot on the wall two years in a row.

Dominant Independence Softball sisters join SportsZone+ "I don't want to go out without going in the playoffs for sure. I'd like to make a deep run and maybe win it for the first time. That's the mark that I'd like to leave," said Vinson Vaughan.

The Cavaliers' blue-collar approach will start in the trenches, as they aim to push people around on offense and defense. "Honestly we normally have quite a few split ends, but we've got more linemen this year than we've ever had - so we're pretty excited about that and we've got some good-sized kids," said Head Coach Vaughan.

The Cavaliers hope that 2026 will see a return to normalcy in Charmco, both on the field and on the sideline. Head Coach Kelly Vaughan is back with the Cavaliers after missing most of last season battling cancer.

"Oh man, it's awesome. I told them yesterday was a year from me being in Morgantown, and I was actually at practice yesterday and it was so nice," said Head Coach Vaughan.

"It's great to see him walking around feeling all good," said Mcclung. He said there is no place he'd rather be than right back on the sideline in Charmco where he's spent the last 35 years.

Governor Morrisey declares State of Emergency after severe storms and flooding "I'm to the point now in my life where the grandfathers I played with in High School, the daddies I coached in High School, and now I've got the grandsons," said Head Coach Vaughan.

The Cavaliers will lean on their size, strength, and Coach Vaughan's leadership to try to put 2026 up on the wall in Charmco.
