John Harbaugh is entering his first New York Giants season as head coach, and there’s no shortage of motivation for him. He’s coming from an 18-year stint with the Baltimore Ravens and is now helping the Giants with his long and historic experience. However, ahead of the regular-season kickoff, Harbaugh has recently laid out the mission statement. Responding to a reporter’s question on whether he feels “there’s a strong roster going into the season,” the Giants HC had an optimistic answer. “I do. I mean, I’m optimistic (and) I feel good about our guys. But you know, that’s always something that has to be proven,” he said via SNY Giants. “Our mission statement is to be the best team in the National Football League and prove it. Additionally, Harbaugh also noted his expectations for the team. “They’ll go out there and be the very best football team they can be. What that ends up being depends on how good we are. That’s what you find out when you play the games. Everything else is just talk,” he added.

The Giants are coming out of a rough season, finishing at the bottom of the NFC East with a disappointing 4-13 record, and a confident coach is what they need to turn things around. The season was plagued by offensive woes and quarterback struggles, which ultimately led to a string of tough losses and fans looking ahead to the draft well before winter arrived. Despite a few gritty performances from the defense, they simply couldn’t find the consistency needed to compete in a tightly contested division.
