The 2026 Kentucky football season is now just 22 days away, with the Will Stein era is set to begin on Sep. 5 against Youngstown State. As we count the days down, we are getting to know the players on the team, and today we are taking a look at No. 22, Grant Godfrey.
Godfrey is a 6'3", 240 lb linebacker out of Suwanee, Georgia. As a recruit in the 2023 class, he was rated four stars by 247Sports, and ranked as the No. 331 overall player in their composite rankings.
Offers came in from many schools, including several from the SEC, and from Wildcats rival Louisville. However, in the end, he committed to Kentucky.
In 2023, Godfrey saw a little action, but redshirted. Then, in year two, he worked his way into the rotation, playing in seven games and recording nine tackles. Last year, mostly as a backup, he had more than 30 tackles, and got his first sack.
Heading into 2026, Godfrey is in position to be a starting linebacker, and brings much needed experience to the unit. He has gotten better and more involved each year, and this season is set to be his best yet.
