The Montcalm Generals had an up-and-down kind of year by their standards last season, going just 4-6. But if you talk to anyone in the locker room, there is optimism that this time might finally break their long playoff drought this season. Head Coach Adam Havens says the team is working on a few new systems, both offensively and defensively, but the team is "all-in." He says the team has been putting in the work to get stronger in the gym while also testing their own knowledge of the game. Last season, the Generals leaned heavily on a young roster - now that roster has a whole season under their belt and appears poised to attack the schedule. This team is looking to rely on senior Jerran Pendry, who has been a dual threat both offensively and defensively, as well as senior Donovan Reed to be one of their go-to wide receivers. Havens says they haven't solidified their starting quarterback yet but tells 59News it's been a healthy competition. "We gain experience through the preseason, and the kids take the coaching that we're providing them. I think it is a real possibility for us to finish the season on a high note and potentially make it into the top 16," remarks Head Coach Adam Havens. The Generals will open the season against another hungry single-A team, the Meadow Bridge Wildcats, a team they lost to last year that they will look to rebound against.
