Scottie Scheffler won the second Tour Championship of his career on Sunday, leaving Gary Player very impressed.
Scheffler enjoyed a wonderful 2026 season on the PGA Tour, with three wins and 13 top-5 finishes to his name in 20 starts.
It’s incredible to think that some golf fans and analysts were genuinely questioning whether his best years were already behind him.
Scottie Scheffler was utterly dominant in all of the key statistical categories on the PGA Tour in 2026.
And his Tour Championship win cemented his place at the pinnacle of the sport.
Now Gary Player has reacted to the world number one’s victory at East Lake last week.

Interestingly, Player recently suggested that Scheffler should play more globally in order to help grow the game.
In spite of the fact that the 30-year-old doesn’t travel much outside of the United States, Player is still a huge fan of his.
The South African took to his official X account to congratulate Scheffler after his victory at the Tour Championship on Sunday.
“Many congratulations to Scottie Scheffler on winning the TOUR Championship and capturing his second FedExCup title,“ Player began.
“What a special season from a truly exceptional champion. No doubt the best golfer in the world today.
“Scottie’s discipline, determination and humility are a wonderful example for every young golfer. The game is in very good hands.“
Player’s words must mean so much to Scheffler, especially given the fact that the South African praised the world number one’s character, just as much as his golf.
Jack Nicklaus sends message to Scottie Scheffler
Player was not the only legend of the game to congratulate Scheffler after his East Lake triumph.
Jack Nicklaus also took to his social media accounts in reaction to Scheffler’s win on Sunday in Atlanta.
“As I watched yesterday’s Tour Championship, and saw Scottie Scheffler come down the stretch, I said to myself, ‘I fully expect him to win’. And he did,“ Nicklaus wrote.
“Scottie, you played smart. You played well. You deserved to win. Best player in the world right now!
“I congratulate you on your victory and FedExCup Playoff win. Barbara and I wish you, Meredith and your family continued success!“
Scottie Scheffler is clearly hugely admired by the greatest golfers to ever have graced the game.
And by the time he’s done playing, Scheffler himself will surely go down as one of the all-time greats.
