Fall camp for the Oklahoma Sooners is starting to wind down. That means players in competitions for playing time or even starting spots are running out of time to make any more impressions in the offseason. One of the biggest competitions for the Sooners is at EDGE between Adepoju Adebawore and Danny Okoye. The two are expected to replace R Mason Thomas, who went in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Both Adebawore and Okoye were highly-touted recruits coming out of high school. Neither has made that big of an impact to this point. Both were role players last season, with Adebawore playing a bigger role off the bench. Former Oklahoma All-American Gabe Ikard revealed one of his biggest question marks coming into fall camp was whether Adebawore has taken that next step. He said he feels that he has, and he could benefit from some of the other talented defensive linemen. "He's one of those guys who I think is going to have a lot of opportunities because a lot of offenses are going to pay a lot of attention to Stone and Wein," Ikard said on the 'Oklahoma Breakdown with Ikard and Lehman.' "Those guys are extremely disruptive players... That should give PJ a lot of one-on-one opportunities. Whether that's in the run game or rushing the passer." Oklahoma has enough talent along its defensive line that opposing offenses won't be able to focus all of their attention on Adebawore. Stone is coming off a strong season at defensive tackle, while Wein has established himself as one of the Sooners' premier EDGE players. That could force offensive lines to leave Adebawore in more favorable one-on-one situations. If he can consistently win those matchups, Oklahoma could get close to the production from the position that it did with Thomas last year. The opportunity is there. Now Adebawore has to take advantage of it. With fall camp winding down, the EDGE competition is nearing its conclusion. If Adebawore really has taken the next step, as Ikard believes, Oklahoma could have another dangerous piece in what is already expected to be one of the best defensive lines in the country.
