Frank Lampard has urged Coventry to give everything in their match against Arsenal today and ensure they have no regrets at the final whistle.
The Gunners face the Premier League new boys, and it will be an overwhelming experience for Lampard and his team, with Arsenal looking impressive in their recent matches. They :
“The last thing I would like to have after a game against Arsenal, or any team like this, is a regret of our approach and that we didn’t give it everything.
“If we can do that as a team, then we will compete in this league and show teams what we are. If we don’t, we’ll be disappointed. I’ll remind the players of that [before the game].”
Lampard knows the challenge facing his team, but he wants Coventry to approach the match without fear. Arsenal are expected to dominate possession and create opportunities, but Coventry can still make the occasion memorable by giving everything from the opening whistle.
Coventry facing difficult test
Everyone knows this will be a tough game for Coventry, and it will be hard to find anyone who does not expect Arsenal to win the match. However, Lampard has to do his job and ensure his players are prepared for the challenge.
An opening day upset would be one of the best possible results for Lampard as a manager, particularly against a team expected to challenge at the top of the Premier League. Coventry therefore have little to lose and plenty to gain.
Their main objective will be to compete, show their character and avoid leaving the pitch with regrets. If they can achieve that, Lampard will have reason to be pleased with his team regardless of the final result.
