Best No. 29 in Steelers history: RB Barry Foster No. 29 may not have the incredible history of other Steelers jersey numbers, but the best wearer in franchise history is running back Barry Foster. Foster, drafted by Pittsburgh with the 128th overall pick in the fifth round of the 1990 NFL Draft, had injuries derail what could've been a fruitful career. When healthy in 1992, Foster set the Steelers' single-season rushing yards record with 1,690, earning Pro Bowl recognition and a First-Team All-Pro selection for his outstanding efforts. He also finished second in MVP voting behind Hall of Fame 49ers quarterback Steve Young but was unfortunately unable to replicate the success of his stellar 1992 season to close out his career. Still, this accomplishment will live as one of the greatest single-season performances for a Steelers running back of all time, truly deserving of the title of best Steeler to ever wear No. 29.
