Ellyes Skhiri could be on his way back to 1. FC Köln after all. The Tunisia international has emerged as a transfer target for his former club once again, and according to Bild, Köln and Eintracht Frankfurt have reached an agreement over a transfer for the 31-year-old.
The deal appeared to have fallen through earlier this summer, with Skhiri reportedly no longer being considered by Köln. FC Sevilla had subsequently emerged as another potential destination. However, the situation has now changed, with the two Bundesliga clubs apparently agreeing on the transfer fee.
The remaining obstacle is Skhiri himself. According to the report, Köln are prepared to offer the midfielder around €1.5 million per year. Skhiri, who is among Frankfurt’s higher earners, is reportedly looking for a salary of more than €2 million. The two sides would therefore still have to find a compromise before the transfer can be completed.
A return to Köln would represent a comeback to the club where Skhiri spent four successful years. He joined the Billy Goats from Montpellier in 2019 and quickly became an important part of the team. During his first spell, he made 133 competitive appearances for Köln, scoring 20 goals and establishing himself as a fan favourite.
Skhiri left the club as a free agent in 2023 and subsequently joined Eintracht Frankfurt, signing a contract that runs until 2027. He has since made more than 100 appearances for the Eagles across all competitions.
