Former Jacksonville Jaguars Pro Bowl wide receiver Allen Robinson II has announced his retirement after 11 seasons in the NFL.
Robinson made his announcement in an Instagram post on Monday, his 33rd birthday.
He expressed gratitude for everything football has provided for him and said that he is ready to begin the next chapter of his life.
“As I reflect on another year of life, I find myself especially grateful; not just for where I am, but for the journey that brought me here. This birthday feels a little different. It marks not only another year, but the beginning of a new chapter. To every love story, there comes a final chapter. Football gave me more than I ever could’ve imagined. It challenged me, shaped me, humbled me, and rewarded me in ways I’ll carry for the rest of my life.
“I came, I saw, I conquered and I leave with nothing but gratitude.”
Robinson finishes his career with 565 catches, 7,058 receiving yards, and 43 receiving touchdowns. He last played for the Detroit Lions in 2024, but only recorded three catches in 12 appearances. In addition to the Jaguars and Lions, Robinson has also played for the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Los Angeles Rams.
Drafted By Jacksonville In 2014
After playing his college ball at Penn State, Robinson was drafted by Jacksonville in the second round (61st overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. Robinson had been a First-Team All-American in 2013, and immediately became an impact player for the Jaguars, catching 48 passes for 548 yards and a pair of touchdown in only 10 games during his rookie year. A stress fracture in his foot ended his season early.
However, Robinson would rebound from that injury and enjoy the best season of his career the following year for Jacksonville. In 2015, he recorded a whopping 1400 receiving yards on 80 receptions and caught 14 touchdowns. That season, Robinson earned the lone Pro Bowl selection of his career.
Since 2015, Robinson, Davante Adams, Cooper Kupp, Brandon Marshall, and Ja'Marr Chase are the only receivers to have a season with at least 1,400 receiving yards and 14 TDs.
Robinson wasn't able to duplicate his numbers the following season, but remained a key part of the offense. The next season, in 2017, Robinson tore his ACL in Week 1, ending both his season and his career in Jacksonville.
Sought-After Free Agent
Despite the injury, Robinson was one of the most sought-after free agents in 2018 and signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Chicago Bears. After recording a stat line of 55-754-4 in 13 games in 2018, Robinson regained his previous form and was outstanding over the next two years.
In 2019, he went for 98-1,147-7, and was even better in 2020, finishing with 102-1,250-6.
His production fell off a cliff the following year, which would be his last in Chicago. Robinson spent the next few seasons bouncing around the league, never able to reclaim the success he had earlier in his career.
The Detroit native would get to finish his playing days for his hometown Lions in 2024.
Final Thoughts
Robinson's 2015 season was one of the best individual years by a player in Jaguars' history. Though he wasn't able to build upon it, Robinson is still fondly remembered in Jacksonville history.
Despite only playing in Jacksonville for four years, including the 2017 season where he only lasted three plays, Robinson's 2,848 receiving yards during his Jaguars' career still ranks fifth in team history.
