What initially looked like a potentially devastating injury for former Clemson standout Nate Wiggins appears to have ended with much better news for the Baltimore Ravens.

Wiggins was carted off the practice field Tuesday after suffering an apparent left leg injury during training camp. Initial testing later revealed no structural or ligament damage, according to multiple reports, giving Baltimore reason to believe its starting cornerback avoided a significant long-term setback.

The injury happened roughly an hour into practice during one-on-one drills. ESPN’s Jamison Hensley reported that Wiggins became tangled with rookie wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane before going to the ground in “visible pain.” Wiggins could not put weight on his left leg and eventually left the field on a cart.

Baltimore has yet to announce an official diagnosis or timetable for his return, but the early outlook is encouraging. The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec reported that Wiggins is expected back “sooner rather than later.”

NFL insider Jordan Schultz also reported that “he’ll continue to undergo tests, but the early signs are that he’ll come out of it better than initially feared.”

Keeping Wiggins healthy would be a major boost for a Ravens secondary that has watched him quickly become one of its most important pieces. After Baltimore selected him No. 30 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Wiggins followed a promising rookie year with a standout second season, totaling three interceptions and a team-high 14 passes defended while adding 76 tackles.

Through two NFL seasons, Wiggins has appeared in 32 games with 23 starts, recording 109 tackles, 27 passes defended and four interceptions.

The former first-team All-ACC selection previously played three seasons at Clemson, where he developed into one of college football’s top defensive backs.
