The Central Crime Branch (CCB), Bengaluru police, had conducted a surprise raid and seized the mobile phone, SIM card, phone charger, and a pendrive from Prajwal.
The Parappana Agrahara Police probe allegedly established that the mobile phone was smuggled into the prison through a warder and the SIM card through an undertrial prisoner. Based on technical evidence, tracing the mobile phone to its seller and buyers, the police arrested Naveen Kumar, Manjunath, Prakash, Siddiq, and Mohammed Touseef, for smuggling the phone into the prison, apart from Prajwal and Prathap, who shared a cell in the prison. The involvement of the prison staff in the case is still under probe.
Prathap reportedly claimed that Prajwal was already in possession of the mobile phone before he was moved to the cell and he used the phone later.
