Farmers seek early completion of power sub-station in Kadambur

The electricity shortage and the delay in establishing a sub-station in the Kadambur hill region were among the key issues discussed at a farmers’ meeting held here on Wednesday (September 9, 2026). The farmers demanded that the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) expedite the work.

The meeting, organised by the Erode North district unit of the Tamilaga Farmers’ Protection Association in Kadambur, also discussed crop damage caused by wild animals, maintenance of protective trenches, compensation for crop losses and difficulties in obtaining loans from cooperative banks.

The meeting unanimously resolved to urge the TNPDCL to expedite the establishment of the sub-station to address the shortage of power for agricultural purposes. The association warned that farmers would be mobilised for a democratic protest if there was any further delay.

The farmers also urged the Forest Department to take permanent measures to prevent wild animals from entering agricultural fields and ensure that protective trenches were properly desilted and maintained. They sought immediate and transparent payment of adequate compensation for crops damaged by wild animals.

The participants were briefed on the objectives and activities of the association and its efforts to safeguard farmers’ rights. More than 60 farmers from Kadambur, Guthiyalathur and surrounding areas participated and presented their views and demands.
