Fallout: Wasteland Warfare Gameplay Officially Unveiled

The Fallout franchise continues to thrive, despite no new single-player games in the series, and the latest release is the most exciting of the bunch.

Fallout: Wasteland Warfare Gameplay Officially Unveiled

James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.

Many Fallout fans will inevitably know about that goes into exactly what fans can expect next time out, and there are plenty of major differences that should open the game up to a whole new audience:
"The first edition of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare covered every possible way to play in the ravaged ruins of America. From Player Vs. Player to roleplay game variants, it was all there! The second edition is made from the ground up, first and foremost with solo play in mind. This has allowed for a whole host of innovations to the system, which in turn mean the variation players loved from the first edition can happen organically.

"Gaming spaces for the first edition of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare got very busy, very quickly. We acknowledge that this collecting aspect had its fans, but could easily be a barrier to entry for others. Second edition changes this by cutting down on the number of tokens, and replacing cards with a roster that you can fill in yourself as your band of Wastelanders change and grow. Second edition has also removed a few of the dice from the gameplay loop, making it easier than ever to get to the fun bits.

"We’ve just talked about the first edition requiring a lot of cards, and part of the reason for that was down to the game’s detailed AI system. While it worked well, it required a lot of admin to enjoy, and with the second edition we sought to retain the flavour of the originality, without the complexity of the original AI."

The solo-play first approach is undoubtedly the biggest change this time around, and it feels like a sensible choice, given just how difficult it can be to get adult friends together in practicality. Support remains for group play as well, meaning those who do prefer that approach can still get their enjoyment out of the game.

The Starter Set for Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is available to pre-order now, though it doesn't come particularly cheap at £120/$165. That said, it comes with everything you need to play your first game, and all of the expansions are optional if you find yourself desiring more play options, or you just really love what you see.
