Fall practice started this week throughout Oregon for high school students and the first contests come next week.

Teams are preparing for the season in volleyball, football, soccer and cross country.

The first day for contests is Thursday, Aug. 27, except for football, which can have jamborees that day, but no full games until Aug. 28.

Marshfield will host its traditional volleyball jamboree, which includes several other area teams, on Aug. 27 and then heads to Cascade Christian for a tournament on Aug. 29.

North Bend and Coquille both are in Marshfield’s jamboree and then face each other on Aug. 29 in North Bend. Coquille then hosts both Marshfield and Creswell on Sept. 3, with each team playing the other two.

Bandon starts its season Aug. 29 in Glendale at a jamboree and then is at Pacific on Aug. 31 to face both the Pirates and Waldport. Pacific starts the season with a trip to Mapleton on Aug. 28.

Reedsport and Siuslaw both travel to Elmira on Aug. 29 where they will meet each other and the host Falcons.

Myrtle Point is in Marshfield’s jamboree and then will host Umpqua Valley Christian on Sept. 2.

Among South Coast squads, Powers will get the latest start, with its first volleyball match Sept. 8 at North Douglas.

In football, North Bend opens the season with a nonleague game Aug. 28 at Sutherlin.

Marshfield travels to Cottage Grove for a jamboree on Aug. 28, with the regular-season opener on Sept. 4 against Philomath.

Coquille opens the season on Aug. 28 at Siuslaw in a nonleague game. The Red Devils will host the Vikings in their league finale at the end of October.

Myrtle Point opens the season on Aug. 29 at home against Weston-McEwen.

Powers is on the road the same day for its opener at Alsea.

Bandon is at Monroe for a jamboree on Sept. 28, with its first regular game at home against Waldport on Sept. 4.

Reedsport, which again is playing a Class 1A eight-player schedule this fall, opens the season at home against Glendale on Sept. 4.

In boys soccer, Marshfield hosts a jamboree on Aug. 27 and then opens the season at home Sept. 1 against Phoenix. The Pirates also visit the combined Coquille/Myrtle Point team on Sept. 3.

The Coquille/Myrtle Point squad will be in Sringfield for a jamboree on Aug. 28.

North Bend, which this year has players from Bandon, will be part of the jamboree with Marshfield and then will host Eagle Point on Sept. 29.

Pacific, which has a coed team and in the past has included Bandon, opens the season in the jamboree at Springfield with the Coquille/Myrtle Point squad, and then is off until facing Umpqua Valley Christian on Sept. 17.

In girls soccer, North Bend hosts a jamboree that also includes Marshfield on Aug. 27 and has its official season opener Sept. 3 at Brookings-Harbor.

Marshfield hosts Phoenix on Sept. 1 and visits the combined Coquille/Myrtle Point team on Sept. 3.

The Coquille/Myrtle Point squad will be in the jamboree in Springfield on Aug. 27.

In Cross Country, Marshfield hosts the Millicoma Icebreaker 3-kilometer race on Aug. 27, an event also including Bandon, Coquille, Brookings-Harbor and Days Creek.

The Pirates travel to Tillamook on Sept. 5 for the Ultimook Meet.

Bandon also travels to Umpqua Community College near Roseburg for a meet Aug. 29 that also includes North Bend and eight other schools.
