Fabrizio Romano: ‘New bid anticipated’ for Liverpool player who ‘wants’ out of Anfield

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that a new transfer offer is ‘anticipated’ for one player who’s reportedly eager to leave Liverpool this month.

The future of Curtis Jones has been a talking point throughout the summer, and Inter Milan have had an opening offer of £21.7m rejected for him already, with the Reds understood to be holding out for £34m (The Athletic).

The Italian reporter has maintained that the Serie A champions view him as a ‘priority’ target, and he claimed on his YouTube channel in recent days that the Merseyside giants could be prepared to lower their asking price to €35m (£30m).

Romano expecting another Inter bid for Jones

The 25-year-old was a notable absentee from both of Liverpool’s matches against Como on Sunday, not even named as a substitute for either game, and Romano took to X with a fresh update on the future of the Reds’ number 17.

He posted: ‘Inter remain keen on the English midfielder with new bid anticipated, deal depends on club-to-club talks as player wants the move.’

Jones’ omission on Sunday seemed telling

Andoni Iraola used 24 different players across the two fixtures against Como yesterday, with a further six included among the substitutes but not featuring on the pitch.

That Jones wasn’t among the 30 who were called up for those matches will inevitably fuel speculation over a prospective exit, even allowing for the head coach maintaining that the 25-year-old has recently been nursing a minor hip injury (The Standard).

Between that omission and Liverpool reportedly lowering their price tag on the midfielder, the prospect of the academy graduate leaving for Inter seems more realistic than ever, with the tide certainly ebbing towards him departing for San Siro.

It’d be a shame to lose the Toxteth lad from the Reds, particularly with no other Scousers in the first team at present, but we’d be surprised if there isn’t at least one more concrete offer from the Nerazzurri, who’ll likely feel increasingly confident of capturing his signature.

Despite Iraola’s previous proclamations about wanting to keep Jones at Anfield, there’s a growing sense that the head coach could reluctantly sanction an exit for the 25-year-old. The next few days should tell us plenty about the eventual fate of this transfer story.
