Ferran Torres may be preparing for a new chapter away from Barcelona, but his extraordinary World Cup achievement continues to attract accolades.

The Spaniard etched his name in football folklore forever with his winning goal for La Roja against Argentina in the final.

A huge mural dedicated to the 26-year-old has been unveiled at the local sports centre, commemorating his decisive contribution to Spain’s World Cup triumph this summer.

Foios pays tribute to its World Cup hero

The artwork shows Ferran celebrating with the World Cup trophy after Spain secured the second World Cup title in their history.

There are several personal touches incorporated into the design.

The mural includes “106”, representing the minute in which Ferran scored the winning goal against Argentina in the World Cup final.

His name is displayed prominently alongside a message celebrating his connection with Foios.

It follows another major tribute held by the town on 7 August after Ferran returned home as a world champion.

The local council described the mural as a way of permanently remembering a moment that has become part of Foios’ history, while encouraging supporters to visit the sports centre and see the artwork.

A remarkable summer for Ferran

The tribute arrives at a fascinating moment in Ferran’s career.

After four and a half years at Barcelona, the forward is now closing in on a transfer to PSG, bringing his time as a Blaugrana player towards an end.

He leaves Barça with his reputation considerably stronger than it was during some of the more difficult periods of his spell in Catalonia.

Ferran scored 40 goals across his final two seasons at Barcelona before producing the defining moment of his career on the biggest stage possible.

A fitting tribute before his Barcelona farewell

Considering the kind of reception Ferran receives wherever he goes in Spain, it comes as quite a surprise that he has decided to leave the country immediately after that World Cup moment.

The 26-year-old could have chosen to stay at Barça for at least another season and taken in the ovation wherever he travels.

His time at Barça has been marked by both high and difficult moments. There have been difficult spells, questions over his finishing and periods when his place in the squad appeared uncertain.

Now, as Barcelona prepare to move forward without him, Foios has ensured that one image from an unforgettable summer will remain.

Whatever happens next in Ferran’s career, he will always be remembered for that one moment on 19 July, wherever he goes in Spain for the rest of his career.
