Ex-Liverpool player shares why Manchester United will not win the Premier League title under Carrick

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher claims Manchester United will not win the Premier League title because Michael Carrick lacks ‘stardust’.

Carrick was initially appointed as interim manager in January after the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

He was handed the permanent role at Old Trafford this summer after leading the club back to the Champions League.

Carrick’s success has sparked hopes he could deliver United’s first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

However, Carragher doesn’t believe the 45-year-old is the man to take them back to the top.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, the famous pundit said: “I personally just don’t think Michael Carrick’s got that stardust as a manager to win a Champions League or a Premier League.

“I don’t believe Michael Carrick will win the league or the Champions League with Manchester United, but he’s done a really good job.”

Arsenal ended their 22-year wait to finally get their hands on the Premier League trophy last season.

The Gunners are the favourites to retain the title. They boast the best squad and have also signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

Man United surprised everyone by clinching a third-place finish last term, but they shouldn’t be considered genuine title contenders in 2026-27.

The Red Devils have reinforced their midfield by bringing in Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, but missed out on first-choice targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes.

They are still looking to add a third midfielder, while they also need reinforcements at left-back.

United haven’t made a blockbuster acquisition this summer, unlike Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.

They still have a strong squad, but don’t look ready to mount a serious title challenge yet.
