Kyle Harrison pitched a two-hit, five-inning gem against the Seattle Mariners as the Milwaukee Brewers cruised to a 22-0 victory. Things got even uglier when a position player came in and pitched the eighth inning, but the Brewers officially scored their most runs of the season. To make things worse, Julio Rodriguez threw a ball into the bullpen with two outs in the eighth, which allowed even more runs to score. Milwaukee has now won three straight and they improved to 78-48, an astonishing 30 games over .500, in one of their most impressive and complete performances in recent memory. Home runs galore Officially, Christian Yelich got the party started with a three-run blast in the fifth inning that capped off a five-run inning. Yelich's ninth home run of the season came with two outs, and it sparked quite a few more to follow. The sixth inning saw Jake Bauers blast his 22nd of the season while David Hamilton shocked everyone with a three-run homer of his own.  From there, Luis Lara finally got over the hump and hit his first career homer in the big leagues. While it came against infielder Leo Rivas, who has a 72.00 ERA after giving up nine runs in the eighth inning, this is still a moment Lara won't ever forget. Brewers pitched a gem Harrison's aforementioned gem headlined what a tremendous night for this pitching staff. Before manager Pat Murphy decided to put his last bench player, Gary Sanchez, in as a position player, the Brewers had allowed just three hits. Harrison allowed two of those while Shane Drohan came in for his first relief appearance in quite some time. Drohan, someone who will have to adjust to the Chad Patrick role, threw 22 of 39 pitches for strikes in his one-hit, two-inning performance. Grant Anderson then pitched an extremely clean and efficient inning, one that saw him strike out a batter, having thrown seven of his nine pitches for strikes. Somehow, Sanchez, a catcher who's been in the big leagues since 2015, preserved the Brewers' shutout. The 33-year-old was the last possible option to come off the bench in this game, and he certainly gave the fans at American Family Field something to be excited about, including high heaters at 71 and 73 miles per hour. History-making win In total, the Brewers outhit the Mariners 22-5 en route to a 22-run victory. According to the Brewers broadcast, this tied the MLB's largest margin of victory in a shutout in the modern era (since 1990), joining a 2004 Cleveland Guardians performance along with one from the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1975.
