ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky believes Von Miller can make a meaningful impact for the Dallas Cowboys despite entering his age-37 NFL season. Miller signed a one-year contract with Dallas on August 16. The eight-time Pro Bowler returns to his home state after recording nine sacks for Washington last season. Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Orlovsky pointed to Miller’s value in specific situations rather than his overall workload. “I think it’s a huge impact situationally,” Orlovsky said. “He had nine sacks last year. He also only rushed less than 250 times.” MORE: Von Miller sends ‘special’ message after signing with Cowboys Orlovsky then highlighted a striking comparison involving Dallas’ defense. “The Cowboys had nine sacks on third down last year as a team. Von Miller had nine,” he said. That statistic captures why Dallas added Miller. The Cowboys struggled defensively last season, allowing 511 points while finishing 7-9-1. Dallas rebuilt its defensive front during the offseason. Miller now joins Rashan Gary, Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark as experienced additions to the unit. That game script could create valuable pass-rushing opportunities for Miller. He does not need to become an every-down player to justify the signing. “This isn’t the Rams signing Von Miller of six or seven years ago,” Orlovsky said. “But this is situationally having a pass rusher that now you can pair with certain guys.” Miller also brings experience to a young defensive group. Orlovsky specifically mentioned Malachi Lawrence, giving the rookie another veteran presence during his development. Meanwhile, Miller has already expressed confidence in his ability to produce. “I can still walk in the 8 to 10 sacks now,” he said on the “Nightcap” podcast. “That’s just walking in.” He also described himself as a strong teammate, saying, “I am the best teammate in the history of the National Football League.” So, for Dallas, the goal is clear. Miller must turn limited snaps into pressure while helping younger pass rushers grow. Orlovsky summed up the move, saying, “I think this is a meaningful addition in Dallas.” — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories with The Big Lead Newsletter —
