Durham 252 and 374 (McKinney 184, Higgins 4-79) beat Middlesex 203 and 330 (Duke 100*, Parkinson 4-45)Durham have secured promotion back to Rothesay County Championship Division One at the first time of asking after and bowled their side to a 93-run victory over a -inspired Middlesex.Durham had a dream start as Kasey Aldridge picked up a wicket with the first ball of the day and another fell soon after, but a partnership worth 64 from Ben Geddes and Ryan Higgins halted Durham's charge to victory briefly.Parkinson then reignited Durham's victory push before lunch as he accounted for Higgins and Geddes, who made a tidy 50. When Durham were seemingly heading for victory, they were once again held up by the ninth wicket pair of Tom Helm and Duke.However, it was Parkinson who broke the 79-run partnership between the pair and while Yorkshire loanee Duke displayed great defiance with a brilliant maiden First Class century, Carse took the final wicket to seal promotion for the hosts.Resuming on 55 for 2, Middlesex's aim was to keep their wickets intact and delay Durham's promotion party for a few days at least. However, that plan was dealt a blow almost immediately as Aldridge got Nathan Fernandes after the Middlesex man edged to third slip.Max Holden and Geddes held Durham up for a brief period, with the pair keeping the scoreboard ticking over in a sensible manner. However, Will Rhodes came into the attack for Durham and picked up the scalp of Middlesex captain Holden after he was caught at first slip.Durham nearly had their fifth wicket, as Brydon Carse found the edge of Geddes' bat, but Aldridge couldn't cling on to a regulation catch at second slip.Higgins picked up two boundaries off a Rhodes over to relieve some of the pressure on the visitors. Geddes then joined in with a lovely shot down the ground off the bowling of Aldridge.Higgins and Geddes' partnership passed fifty as they frustrated Durham's bowlers, but the former was dismissed soon after as he slapped a Parkinson delivery straight to backward point.Geddes continued his good morning with the bat as he passed fifty for the third time this season, but he then departed at the hands of Parkinson after holing out to Mayank Agarwal who produced an excellent catch running in from the long-on boundary.Parkinson bowled Zafar Gohar after lunch with a beauty as Durham closed in on promotion. Carse then got Seb Morgan lbw, but Duke and Helm combined to stem the flow of wickets.Helm whipped an Aldridge delivery for four to delay Durham's party further into the afternoon. Helm and Duke's partnership passed fifty, while Duke picked up a tidy half-century.Parkinson then found the breakthrough as he got Helm lbw for a valiant 32, but Duke continued his excellent knock.Ben McKinney then dropped Duke on 95 after the Middlesex man went for a big shot, but he reached three figures for the first time in his career from the next ball.Carse then took the decisive wicket one ball later as he got Naavya Sharma caught behind, which secured Durham a 93-run win and promotion back to Division One.
