MIAMI GARDENS — Injuries and health are becoming more of a story for the Dolphins as training camp continues, but it’s not yet known how many of the ailments are long term.  Wide receiver Chris Bell was activated Monday, and that was the big news for the day. He wore a red (no contact) jersey during practice. He did individual dtrills but didn’t particpate in 11 on 11. Among those not practicing were quarterback Quinn Ewers, linebacker Jordyn Brooks, defensive tackle Zach Sieler, defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, cornerback JuJu Brents, defensive lineman Zeek Biggers, linebacker Ronnie Harrison Jr., edge rusher Clelin Ferrell and tight end Ben Sims. Rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas left Monday’s practice with a trainer for a brief stretch. Douglas later jogged back to the field. There’s no word on his ailment although he went to a place where hydration issues are often treated. The Dolphins were in jerseys and helmets Monday. So far, they’ve only had two periods in which they tackled to the ground during training camp and both were during the practice at Hard Rock Stadium. The Dolphins canceled Wednesday’s scheduled practice and turned it into a walkthrough. Here’s what we observed Monday: —-RB De’Von Achane ran left for a short gain on the first play of 11-on-11, upholding a daily tradition of the Achane runnining on the first play of 11 on 11. —Edge rusher Chop Robinson had a sack on QB Malik Willis on the second play. Robinson had a productive game Friday. —WR Tahj Washington had a 39-yd TD reception from QB Cam Miller late in 11 on 11. Both could use the good vibes as they’ve sturggled during training camp. —Ewers, who might have sustained his injury on the play in which he scrambled to the sideline, was seen watching practice. —Sieler, who has been termed “week to week,” was seen working on the side with trainers.  —CBs Storm Duck and Darrell Baker Jr., who are on the physically unable to perform list, were both on the sideline during practice, as they’ve been for a couple of weeks. There’s been no indication either is returning soon. —Dave Wannstedt, the ex-Dolphins coach who is a mentor for coach Jeff Hafley, attended practice. It’s the second time Wannstedt has returned. Wannstedt hired Hafley when he was coach at Pitt and is a mentor for Hafley. —The Dolphins started Monday’s practice with an extended special teams period. Special teams weren’t good against Washington among a muffed kickoff and two punts that were close to being blocked. —QB Mark Gronowski, who was waived Aug. 7 and signed Sunday, appeared comfortable upon his return. Gronowski is the No. 3 quarterback because Ewers (groin) is sidelined. —WR Kevin Coleman Jr., who didn’t play against Washington, returned to practice. Coleman, the speedy rookie fifth-round pick, was making progress as a slot WR before being sidelined. WR Malik Washington is the starter in the slot. —LB Kyle Louis, who plays the “big” nickel/slot position, was seen working with the safeties in a bit of cross training similar to what CB Chris Johnson receives. —TE Greg Duclich had a nice reception of about 30 yards from Willis. S Michael Taaffe, who had a rough game against Washington, was the closest defender followed by S Zayne Anderson. —S Lonnie Johnson Jr. had a PBU (pass break up) on a pass to WR Jalen Reagor. The pass from Willis hung up in the air too long. —S DanteTrader Jr. and WR Kevin Coleman Jr. didn’t do 11 on 11 drills. Both were running sprints witth a trainer during 11 on 11. —CB Miles Battle had a PBU vs. WR Jalen Tolbert on a deep pass from Gronowski. Battle continues to flash. —Robinson, going against RT Austin Jackson, pressured Willis on a play the resulted in a drop by Reagor. —CB Marco Wilson, the American Heritage product, almost had an INT vs. WR Terrace Marshall. Wilson, who had an INT against Washington, dove for the low pass but it went between his hands. Wilson continues to flash but special teams might be his key to make the 53-man roster. —WR A.J. Henning had a 70-yd TD reception from Miller, Henning, a practice squad player last year, has done well vs. fellow backups. —RB Carlos Washington Jr. had a nice blitz pickup vs. LB Jacob Rodriguez on a short run by Gronowski. Again, players weren’t in pads but the play showed toughness and awareness. —LB Willie Gay Jr. had a potential bug hit on Willis on a keeper on the first play of the second 11 on 11. Gay, whose roster spot migt be in danger, was active vs. Washington and active again Monday. —Willis went from TE Will Kacmarek to WR Malik Washington on one completion, showing he is comfortable going through his progressions. Willis did something similar on the play vs. Washington in which WR Caleb Douglas stepped out of bounds. Willis looked from Washington, who was open on a slant, to Douglas, who was open on the sideline. Stock up: Edge rusher Chop Robinson Robinson had two sacks and possibly another sack as he contiued a hot stretch that began last week and continued through the joint practice vs. Washington and the game vs. Washington. Robinson has done well against the run and pass. Stock down: S Michael Taaffe There are appeared to be a few plays in which he was late in coverage Monday in practice and Friday vs. Washington. It’s not a huge deal because Taaffe won’t be a starter once Trader returns.
