The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 7-6 as the offense continues to rake and finally help the pitching staff.
The Dodgers’ offense has been poor for weeks now, struggling to produce sustained hits and put together meaningful innings of quality at-bats.
However, against a poor Rockies pitching staff and in the friendliest of hitting conditions, LA is hitting the ball like they usually have this season: hard and often.
The slugging was on full display, with seven runs coming on 10 hits, including Shohei Ohtani’s 30th home run of the season.
Teoscar Hernandez had two extra-base hits, a triple and a double, as he got back on track, while Kyle Tucker broke his 0-for-26 streak with an RBI double.
The star of the offense, however, was Freddie Freeman, who showed an intensity and effort that Dave Roberts has been calling for.
He made a heads-up tag on a foul fly-out, scoring from third, while he also went for a steal from first to second, putting pressure on the catcher and leading to a throwing error and an extra base.
Oh, and Freeman went 2-for-3 on the night with two RBIs and a walk.
It was a spark from an unexpected source in Freeman, but it was exactly what the team needed.
When do the Dodgers play next?
LA will close the series against the Rockies on Wednesday, with Roki Sasaki taking the mound and the Dodgers hoping for a sweep.
If the offense shows up again, the Dodgers will have a good chance to pull off the win.
