Dave Shondell was celebrated as Purdue's winningest coach, but should he have been?

WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue volleyball coach Dave Shondell was celebrated Tuesday night at Mackey Arena after the Boilermakers swept Texas A&M. It was Shondell's 513th career victory at Purdue, surpassing Hall of Fame men's basketball coach Gene Keady's total of 512. Shondell's achievement was announced and promoted as a Purdue record for most head coaching victories. While it is a Purdue record for a coach in one sport, according to Purdue record books, that career win total ranks second in Boilermaker history. Lambert's 371 wins as men's basketball coach is eighth most for a head coach in a single sport behind Shondell, Keady, Matt Painter (men's basketball, 501), Doug Schreiber (baseball, 485), Carol Dewey (volleyball, 469), Dave Alexander (baseball, 407) and Carol Bruggeman (softball, 380).
